From a legal point of view, hemp is not divisible by species, there is only one view – Cannabis Sativa. Regardless of the effect of cannabis, its origin, all the plants are classified as Cannabis Sativa. However, every culture has its own peculiarities of growth, development, genetic, so those who are more familiar with cannabis, shared it on:

Cannabis Sativa. Cannabis sativa is marijuana type that came to Europe with the hot equatorial and tropical regions. Initially, the culture was considered exclusively as agriculture for the production of fibers and paper. The Chinese, who were involved in the mass breeding of cannabis, called their land “the land of mulberry and hemp.”

A little later, the medical side of cannabis were discovered, namely against pain. Since then Cannabis Sativa started playing the role of analgesic.

Plant resembles the tall, slender palm (from 1.2 to 4.5 m) with long internodes and spicy leaves. Culture develops and blooms longer than other types of cannabis. Sativa plants contain about 10-15% of THC and very little CBD.

Cannabis Indica. According to historical data, the plant came to the civilized world from the Indian subcontinent from the Hindu Kush mountain plains. Indica bushes grow up to 1.2m. The leaves are large, wide, with a high content of chlorophyll, resulting bluish-green tint. Bush is rather branched, with large dense buds. Plant matures from 6 to 9 weeks, depending on the genetics. The aromatic palette is not as diverse as that of Sativa, but Indica still exudes a sweet fruity aromas, rare – the stench. Most kinds of Indica are resistant to mildew. Content of THC is high (25%) .

Cannabis Ruderalis. Usually, Ruderalis is considered as weed marijuana. Plant originates from the northern regions. Due to the climatic conditions in which the eyelids Ruderalis sprouted, it has a special vitality, simplicity to the conditions of breeding and short flowering period. Culture grows slightly lower than Indica. The bush produces small thick leaves and small clusters of seeds.

Ruderalis matures little faster than Indica: 4 to 8 weeks. THC content in Cannabis Ruderalis is very low, so it is not used as a separate species, but well used in combination with other types of cannabis.

Also, some “experts” are classified two additional types:

  • Afganica
  • Autoflowers

Cannabis Sativa Autoflowers. This kind of cannabis has been obtained as a result of cross-breeding of Indica and Sativa crops with Ruderalis. Autoflower seeds are considered the best achievement of mankind in the field of cultivation of marijuana in the past few decades. These plants can bloom without reducing of the light day (procedures that growers used intentionally for the beginning of flowering). The feature was inherited from Ruderalis that is adapted to the harsh climatic conditions. Generally hybrids are short shrubs with small thickened leaves. Such crops mature in less than 8 weeks.

Cannabis Afganica. Afganica is considered Indica subspecies. Culture, as Indica of kind, spread from the area of the Hindu Kush. Some botanists consider Afganica as a separate species, thanks to the smaller size (up to 1m), a characteristic plate with a small round at the end. A distinctive feature of Cannabis Afganica is an increased gummosity of main trunk. THC content is greater than in other crops – 27-28%.
